There’s nothing done in halves in the new Harry Potter movie, which opened in theaters in the early morning hours of July 15.
Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince is visually and emotionally packed from beginning to end. The opening sequence alone was outrageously done with visual effects that set the pace for the rest of the movie. Death Eaters cause destruction in the Muggle world by destroying the Millennium Bridge and bring chaos to the extreme on screen.
Half Blood Prince is the most comedic we have seen this cast so far. Poor Ron, played splendidly by Rupert Grint, is run through the emotional ringer of first love, first girlfriend and first love potion. Ron’s relationship (or non relationship) with Hermione Granger, (Emma Watson) who has always been reluctantly charmed by Ron, becomes somewhat strained when Ron gets involved with Lavender Brown, Jessie Cave.
Ron also gets a taste of the uncontrollable obsession that goes along with a love potion when he eats chocolates that were meant for Harry. But have faith, Ron and Hermione make up by the end of the movie. Harry also gets bit by the love bug when he and Jenny Weasley, Ron’s little sister, share their first kiss.
Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, is quite busy throughout the movie trying to obtain a secret memory from the new potions teacher, Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) and trying to keep an eye on Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), whom he believes is now a Death Eater.
Slughorn’s memory is the key to finding a way to destroy He Who Must Not Be Named (Lord Voldemort) for good. After obtaining the memory Harry, along with Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), goes on a mission to find a Horcrux which contains a piece of Lord Voldemort’s soul.
But the movie isn’t all love and comedy. Terror and destruction blend in throughout to lead to the deathly conclusion where one of Harry’s most loved mentors dies and his enemies are revealed. Draco is outed as being in league with the Dark Lord and Serverus Snape’s (Alan Rickman) true nature is revealed (or is it).
