Alworth Hosts Photography Exhibit in Marquand

Brian Alworth, KFVS 12’s Witty Weatherman, Hosts Photography Exhibit at The Gallery in Marquand,

Although perhaps more familiar to many as the morning and noon meteorologist at KFVS12 in Cape Girardeau, Brian sometimes considers himself as a photographer who just happens to do television weather forecasting.

Born in southern Idaho and raised (mostly) in New Orleans, Brian learned to love the outdoors during frequent camping and fishing trips with his family. But it wasn’t until he was in his 30s that he became seriously involved in landscape photography. Graduating through 35mm and 645 cameras, he now does most of his shooting on a Pentax 67ii medium format camera and a Wista large format field camera.

All of these images have been shot on either color slide film or black and white print film. Some were enlarged in the traditional method as either cibachrome or black and white prints, while more recently the slides have been scanned into digital files and then printed on professional photo printers. Two of his preferred photo labs are West Coast Imaging in California, and Gamma Photo in Chicago.

The photographs displayed here are just a sampling of some of the images Brian has captured since about 1990...with no specific theme in mind.  His collection tends to gradually change as prints are either sold or are given away as gifts. The considerable expense of printing and framing means that, over time, this ‘display’ collection has grown much more slowly than the collection of good slides and negatives….but in the end it’s the photography itself which is the most enjoyable: each of the images here comes with many memories.

The exhibit, which features Alworth’s amazing ability to capture nature at just the right moment when all it’s glory is personified through natural light, consists of more than 25 meticulously chosen frames, all artist signed, identified and matted to bring forth the natural beauty the artist appreciates as he explores the United States and abroad.  In place for the months of September and October, tentative plans are for Alworth to be at The Gallery during Marquand’s annual Pioneer Days event – September 26, 2009.  For further information concerning the exhibit or hours for The Gallery, please call 573-783-5609.
