It's that time of year again when we get to turn our clocks back an hour; remember 'Fall Back, Spring Forward'. I used to get the two times mixed up until someone taught me that little saying; now I remember! Anyway, Saturday night we get to sleep an extra hour, so we should be plenty ready for church on Sunday; no excuses! Of course, we will probably be plenty busy with trick or treaters that evening, so we will be staying up later to accommodate all of them. I thoroughly enjoy sitting on my porch swing, watching the kids come up the street, as they stop at each house for their 'goodies'. Trying to figure out who some of them are is a real challenge sometimes, but usually it doesn't take me too long. Quite often my granddaughter or great grandchildren come over and they love handing out the candy and treats too. Last year, several children that came didn't say anything after we gave them treats and my great granddaughter said, "What do you say?" Just a friendly reminder of manners coming from a four year old! Hummm; not bad!
We have a very involved street, with most of the surrounding neighbors giving out treats, so it is a lot of fun. I have noticed these past few years that more and more parents are taking their children trick or treating, and that makes me feel better. In this day and age, we can never be too careful, so thank you parents for caring enough to be involved. And thank you businesses and churches for providing safe and easy places for everyone to come. Community cooperation is a key to safety and fun.
Everyone, have a good and safe Halloween and remember afterwards to 'FALL BACK' an hour and enjoy the extra sleep. Just don't 'fall back' on your work, chores, studies, commitments, or anything else - just sleep.
