Several residents traveled to Cape Girardeau to see President Taft. Sheriff Chapman was appointed as a bodyguard for the president as he traveled from the river to the Normal School to plant a tree.
The WCTU elected officers. Their goal is statewide prohibition in 1910.
A ceremony to lay the cornerstone for the Christian church was held. All local pastors were there except one who went to sleep and did not awaken in time.

The Marcus Lodge celebrated it’s 110th anniversary. It was chartered May 10, 1849.
Smokey Settle’s combination home, restaurant, and grocery store burned at Zion.
Attorney General John Dalton spoke at the cornerstone ceremony for Madison Memorial Hospital.
The Blackcats defeated Festus 28-6.
Ten students from the German school toured the Democrat News.
October 25, 1984
Farm Bureau held their annual meeting. Local officers are Bill Whitener, Bruce Griffon, Joan Whitener, and Harvey Baker.
Bad weather reduced the fall turkey kill. Only 19 were killed the first week of the season, which was down nearly 70 birds.
The Repulican Club held their annual fish fry.
The Cats lost to North County 10-7, in overtime.
October 27, 1999
The Commerce Bank robbery suspect has been arrested. He is from DeSoto.
Yard of the Month honors went to neighbors, Vicki Slinkard and Alma Hollmann.
The Sitze family signed a Nashville recording contract.
The Blackcats won the their district opener over Dexter 28-0.
