PARK HILLS — Sixth-seeded Central bolted to a double-digit advantage in game one Monday evening, and advanced past North County 25-17, 25-16 in a first-round match at the MAAA volleyball tournament.
Jaycee Haus connected for seven kills and Danielle Hughes served 12 points while adding four kills for the Lady Rebels (14-11-2), who will face No. 3 Ste. Genevieve tonight in quarterfinal action.
Central overcame eight missed serves in the contest, and held a 16-5 lead after two hitting errors and a net violation cost North County three extended rallies during the opening stanza.
Kills from senior Paige Gideon and freshman Celeste Bloom helped bring the Lady Raiders within 22-17, resulting in a Central timeout, but Haus ripped a back-set from Tori Boyer to put the game away.
Boyer finished the night with 16 assists. Alicia Sebastian made six digs and Hannah Boren served seven points for Central.
Kylie Dement was credited with an ace off the net after her previous serve was overpassed directly to Bloom for a kill, and North County nudged ahead 6-5 in game two.
Central allowed three playable balls to fall untouched before finally surging ahead, as Haus followed a block from Jessica Moss with a strong smash from the middle at 13-10. Another stuff from Jacy Moyer widened the margin.
Mikayla Barlow paced the Lady Raiders with four kills, and setter Rilea Huff had seven assists. Bloom finished with six digs and Jackie Moss added four.
North County (4-15-1) will face West County in the consolation bracket tonight at 6:15 p.m.
Potosi 2, West County 0 — A team-high 10 kills from senior Melinda Bust and six each from juniors Ashley Thompson and Lindsay Harmon lifted seventh-seeded Potosi past West County 25-7, 25-21 on Monday night.

Kelsey Hampton served seven straight points as Potosi (11-12-1) stormed out to a 12-2 start. Jordan Harbison totaled 18 assists with eight points, and Thompson added seven digs with 10 points in the victory.
West County (6-15) lost three consecutive rallies on missed attacks during the early going, and failed to score on serve during game one.
Bust tipped past two blockers to create a 22-6 margin, and introduced game point moments later with a blistering spike down the line.
The momentum quickly shifted toward the Lady Bulldogs early in game two, and deflected kills from Rikki Lashley and Ashley Dane on back-to-back exchanges resulted in a 6-3 lead.
West County yielded seven of the next eight points to Potosi, including aces from Thompson and libero Jennifer Pinson, but continued to apply pressure with improved serving and attacking.
Leanda Dane put the Lady Bulldogs back in front 17-16 with her second ace during a four-point rotation, but Harbison snapped the run for Potosi with a two-handed push into an open back row.
Harmon terminated a lengthy rally for a 22-19 Lady Trojans lead, and Bust hammered a final spike along the line on match point, sending her team into the quarterfinal round to meet second-seeded Farmington.
Lashley paced West County with five kills and five digs. Felicia Crick dished out eight assists and Brittany Tongay added three kills.
