Robert E. Walkenbach 76, of Fredericktown, Missouri (formerly of Granite City, Illinois) died November 14, 2009 in Fredericktown.
He was born January 20, 1933 in McKittrick, Missouri, a son of the late Wilbur and Theresa (Range) Walkenbach.
He married Yvonne (Beyer) Walkenbach on April 24, 1954 in Granite City.
He had many years of dedicated service at Conalco as a Crain Operator and retired in 1979.
Mr. Walkenbach was a U.S. Navy veteran and served from 1951 until 1955 aboard the USS Missouri were he was in charge of the surrender plaque the site were Japan surrendered to the allied forces to end World War II in 1945.
Member of the VFW Post in Farmington, Missouri; He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, loved spending time outdoors, helping others, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Walkenbach is survived by his wife; one son, Curt Walkenbach of Granite City; one daughter Cathy Roesch of Belleville, Illinois; one sister, Marilyn Bronnbauer of Granite City; Five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; Several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and many other extended family and friends.
Visitation: Tuesday November 17, 2009 at Irwin Chapel 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, IL from 4pm till 8pm.
Funeral Mass was at 10:00 a.m. on held Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Church of the Risen Savior in Rhineland, Missouri the Father William Debo officiating, Burial with Full Military Honors will be at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery.
