Some confusion is happening regarding the tax bills being sent out for the City of Fredericktown.
Fredericktown and Marquand have both entered into an agreement with Madison County Collector’s Office to have the Collector’s bill and accept tax payments for the residents of Fredericktown and Marquand who pay city taxes. The recent bill from the Collector’s office contains both the Fredericktown’s city tax bill and Marquand’s city tax bill along with the County tax bill. (If you pay Fredericktown or Marquand taxes).
Fredericktown or Marquand residents will not receive a separate bill from their respective cities; the tax bills are now included in the tax bills coming from the Madison County Collector, Charla Royer.
Royer said, “Both the city and the county tax bills are included in one billing.” She went on to say, “Residents will not receive a separate bill from (either) city.”
Both city and county taxes are now paid at the Madison County Tax Collector’s office in the courthouse. The cities and the county all thought people would prefer paying taxes at only one place and arranged to do so. This is the first year that taxes have been included on the bill and some city residents thought the county taxes were way too high due to the combination of the tax bills. You can call the County Collector’s Office at 573-783-6544 Extension 4 with any questions.
