The Arcadia Valley boys basketball team remained the top-ranked squad in the state Class 3 media poll for a third consecutive week in the latest edition released on Wednesday. The Tigers played their final home game on Tuesday night, defeating Kingston 72-40 to improve their overall record to 19-0.
A victory in Caledonia on Friday coupled with a West County triumph over Kingston would set up an MAAA Small-School championship showdown next Tuesday in Leadwood. The Bulldogs have either split or won the previous six conference crowns outright under the guidance of head coach Chad Mills.
The Bismarck girls entered the Class 2 rankings this week at No.10 with their 15-1 mark, and can clinch the Small-School title tonight with a victory at West County. The youthful Lady Bulldogs stayed in league contention by surviving one-point thrillers against Arcadia Valley and Valley in their last two contests.
In high school softball news, I recently received word that Ste. Genevieve pitcher Leticia Hindrichs has signed a letter of intent to play for Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis. Hindrichs highlighted her senior season by tossing a no-hitter with six strikeouts against Fredericktown in the MAAA Tournament.
