Midwest Health Group celebrated a milestone in care in the Parkland this month – and the founding physicians say it’s all due to their outstanding staff and wonderful patients and a commitment to providing affordable care to the area.

Staff at the medical group held a week long “thank you” to their patients, hosting different celebration activities throughout the week at their office located at 555 W. Pine St. to express their appreciation.

Dr. Paul Moniz and Dr. Guy Roberts are the two physicians who began the group a decade ago.

Roberts said the two came together after both left the facilities they were practicing at during that time.

“We were a little disenfranchised with those settings, so we decided to try our luck and go out on our own,” he said. “…we went out on our own and never looked back. So, it’s been a great thing for us the past 10 years.”

Roberts said their two personalities melded together to help form “a great partnership.”

Moniz said the health group began with three people – himself, a nurse and office manager before Roberts came on board.

“Now, we’re (up to) four doctors, eight nurse practitioners and 30 staff members,” he said. “Over the past 10 years we’ve really evolved and we’re really passionate about serving the community … that’s why we do all of this is - to provide cost-effective care and get people taken care of.”

Moniz said the decision to go out on their own was made at time when others were staying with larger medical facilities.

“We were somewhat going upstream from what a lot of other physicians were doing,” Moniz said. “But, we were passionate that this was something we felt we could do.

“Ten years later, we’re still going strong and actually still growing.”

Moniz hinted there are more services in the works for the health group – with plans to roll out those in the future.

“We’re always looking to evolve,” Roberts said. “Medicine as an industry is always evolving.”

Moniz said the Midwest Health Group established two convenient care offices in the area, providing what he called a low-cost alternative of visiting the emergency room for less critical medical situations.

“It’s been a huge benefit to the community,” Moniz said. “We’re just trying to provide low cost, efficient health care for the community

The group also partners with Midwest Orthopedic Group – operating as their own entity, but partnership as independent specialist with the group.

Roberts grew up in Farmington. Moniz is from Bermuda, but has been in the area for 20 years and now considers himself a “country boy,” he said with a laugh.

“This is our home. This is our community,” he said. “We’re going to do everything we can to support it and make it better.”
