The Fredericktown High School Blackcats football team lost 28-7, Friday at Perryville.

The Pirates defense came into the game having allowed a total of seven points in its first two contests. The Pirates nearly put up their second consecutive shutout, Friday.

Fredericktown received the opening kickoff but soon turned the ball over on downs. The Cats recovered a fumble, but were forced to punt. This time, the Pirates went 52 yards on seven plays. Bryce Flaherty scored from 36 yards out and the PAT made it 7-0 with 4:57 to play in the first quarter.

Fredericktown had two more first quarter drives, but the Cats were unable to get a first down and had to punt both times. Perryville started at the FHS 44 with 1:26 to play in the first. The Pirates put together a 12-play, 44-yard scoring drive, culminating with a 10-yard scoring run by Derek Kirn. The Pirates led 14-0 with 7:30 to play in the half.

Fredericktown’s defense held the rest of the half, but the Cats still could not generate any offense. The final two FHS drives of the half ended in a turnover and a punt, respectively.

The Cats' first drive of the second half ended with a punt. Perryville started at its 22 and drove 66 yards to the Fredericktown 12 before being stopped on downs. The drive ate up most of the third quarter.

After recovering another fumble deep in Fredericktown territory, the Pirates scored to open the fourth quarter. A second touchdown by Kirn made it 21-0 with 11:54 to play in the game.

The Cats turned the ball over on downs and the Pirates scored one more time on the ensuing drive. Logan Thaxton got the touchdown to make it 28-0 with 7:20 to play in the game.

After missing a field goal, the Cats forced a late Perryville punt. The Cats scored on an 11-yard pass from Seth Laut to Clark Penuel with four seconds left in the game. Colten Jordan’s PAT made it 28-7.

Mike Parrish led the Cats on the ground with nine carries for 43 yards. Colten Rehkop completed nine passes for 85 yards. Noah Korokis had six catches for 85 yards.

On defense, Parrish had eight solo tackles, including two for a loss. Korokis had ten solo tackles and recovered a fumble. Jose Fraire, Logan Bowling, and Penuel each had six solo tackles. Bowling had a sack. Rehkop forced two fumbles and Isaak Starkey recovered a fumble.

The Cats fell to 1-2. Perryville improved to 3-0.

Fredericktown hosts Ste. Genevieve, Friday for “Pink-Out” Night. The Dragons (0-3) are coming off a 52-21 loss to Hillsboro, Friday.
