The Fredericktown City Council received an update on the sports complex at its regular meeting Monday at city hall.

City Engineer Tim Baer gave the council the update, including a possible timeline. He said the final plans are not completed yet but that they are getting close.

The projected timeline is to have final plans by Jan. 26 with a bid date of Feb. 21 in order for the board to approve a bid at the Feb. 26 city council meeting. 

Baer said this timeline would see the work beginning sometime in March and a completion date in the Fall, allowing the sod enough time take to the ground so it can be played on in Spring of 2019.

"We are still collecting information to make certain some of the dirt work is done correctly," Baer said. "We will be ready to put the bids out in a couple of weeks."

In the work session, the council discussed the bridge closure on City Lake Road.

"The bridge is closed," Interim City Administrator James Settle said. "Inspectors came two weeks ago and they came back and said to close it."

"We need to get it fixed when we can find the funds," Alderman Rick Polete said. "Citizens use it more than we think. I think we need to pursue it."

"Most of this stuff takes two years, so we might as well get started right away," Ward I Alderman Harold Thomas said. 

The board decided Settle and Baer will look into options for repairing what is there and start the process.

The council approved a request by the water department to purchase two raw water intake pumps from Brotcke Well & Pump.

The alderman also reviewed and approved changes to the personnel flow chart.

The Fredericktown Fire Department made a request to resubmit a grant proposal for a new ladder truck and burn props. The current fire truck is 21 years old. The council approved the request.

The board also approved sending two Fredericktown firefighters to the annual Winter Fire School Feb. 2-4, in Columbia.

After a closed session to discuss two personnel matters, the board reconvened for its regular meeting.

In regular business, City Attorney Mary Boner read two ordinances. The first authorized the mayor to execute an agreement between the City of Fredericktown, Leon Basler, and Town and Country Grocers relative to the lease of a hangar at the Fredericktown Regional Airport.

The second allows the city clerk to execute agreements between the City of Fredericktown and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission via their new electronic system. The ordinances passed.

During her mayor's report Mayor Kelly Korokis said, "Welcome to the new year. Everybody be safe with the crazy weather we've been having."

The board approved a resolution appointing the City Administrator as director and Thomas as alternate director to the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission.

The board referred a request to rezone 301 Lincoln Dr. from R-2 to C-2 to the Planning & Zoning Commission for a recommendation.

A resolution to declare a laundromat and its contents, owned by the city, as surplus equipment and property was approved by the board. Boner said this was the first step to selling the contents and properties. The council members agreed it would cost more to repair the property than it makes in a year. Polete said it is the definition of a money pit.

The next meeting of the Fredericktown City Council will be Jan. 22, following the 5:30 p.m. work session at city hall.
