Janet Dean (Whitener) Freeman, 79, of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the ClaRu DeVille Nursing Center in Fredericktown. She was born November 3, 1938 in Madison County, a daughter of Everette and Alma (Hale) Whitener.
She married John Theodore Freeman April 19, 1969 at the Twelve Mile Baptist Church near Fredericktown. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1984. Mrs. Freeman's parents and brother Ben Whitener also preceded her.
Survivors include sons Philip Freeman of Fredericktown, Steven Freeman of Arkansas, Nathan (Jessica) Freeman of Autryville, North Carolina and Timothy (Amy) Freeman; sister Phyllis (A.J.) Fencl of Fredericktown; sister-in-law Kay Whitener of Festus; grandchildren Timothy Jr., Michael, David, Nathan Jr. Janet, Johnny, Anastasia, Elijah and Kayla.
Janet was a homemaker. She enjoyed art work and crafts but her top priority was reading, especially her Bible. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri.
Funeral services were Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Twelve Mile Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie DeSpain officiating. Internment was in the Barber Whitener Cemetery near Fredericktown. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Barber-Whitener Cemetery Fund.
