PARK HILLS – Mineral Area College’s Music Department will present its Fall Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 20, at First United Methodist Church of Park Hills at 401 Taylor Ave.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Harry Cecil, the director of choirs at MAC, said the Fall Choral Concert will be particularly interesting as it features West County High School’s Concert Choir, conducted by Ryan Hassell.

“It is an honor to open our concert season by sharing the stage with such a great music teacher in Mr. Hassell. We have had many of his alumni in our choir and he produces some great music students,” Cecil said. “The West County choir is presenting some wonderful patriotic songs for the concert, and it will be a joy to combine the two ensembles together for the final patriotic tune.”

Along with the patriotic music West County is providing, the theme for this fall’s concert is “Moon Music.” Cecil said MAC Choirs will present repertoire themed around the eclipse that just took place in August of this year.

“Because we just experienced the first total eclipse visible in the United States in many years, I thought it would be meaningful to commemorate it with choral music that honors the splendor of the moon,” he said. “Through such a theme we will also depict the sunset and sunrise with an exquisite nocturnal emphasis. The audience is sure to be intrigued by all the unique poetry and songs penned to celebrate the allure of the moon.”
