Billy Carpenter, 85, of Fredericktown, died Monday, September 4, 2017 at Madison Medical Center in Fredericktown. He was born September 23, 1931 in Saco, Missouri to William Charles and Birdie Mae (Spain) Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter married Leticia Mae Mertell June 4, 1955 in St. Louis. She survives in Farmington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Clarence Carpenter, Paul Carpenter, Edward Carpenter and Howard Carpenter; and sisters Eskel Brewington, Deloris Slocum, Lorene Graham and Edna Fisher.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Carpenter's survivors include daughter Janet Autry (Don) of Fredericktown; sons Mark Carpenter and Gary "Lynn" Carpenter both of Fredericktown and Charles Higgenbothan (Mike Farmer) of Wood River, Illinois; sister Darlis Jeanette Mullins of De Soto; grandchildren William Carpenter, Tracy Higgenbothan, Kyle Langston, Travis Autry, Cory Langston and Cody Autry; four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Billy was a school bus driver for the Fredericktown R-I District for many years. He was a man with many interests, which included hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and singing, cooking, flower gardening, taking walks in the woods and collecting rocks, and he was a very creative wood carver.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 6 at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Hinkle officiating. A private internment may be held at a later date.
