I realize it’s already the third week of January, but still it is the beginning of a new year with opportunities for us to determine if we want to make changes in our lives.
Some make New Year’s resolutions. Some consider job changes. Some decide it is time to retire and do other things. Some go back to school to advance their education. Some stay the same. Whatever the choices might be, it is still a New Year in which we all start fresh again.
We can use our time to look forward and anticipate what might be. We can dwell on the past and become bogged down and depressed. We can set new goals or we can become content with the status quo.
Much of what transpires in 2018 will be up to us. Of course there are always the unexpecteds, but we all know that is just part of life and we deal with them as they come along.
At this point, I want to commend our Madison County Chamber of Commerce for working extremely hard this past year on bringing people in the county together to promote our area. We live in a beautiful area and are blessed to be able to enjoy and appreciate its natural beauty, plus participate in individual events throughout the year. 2018 is Fredericktown’s Bicentennial year and the Chamber, businesses, individual groups and clubs have interesting events planned for every month.
They kicked off this New Year with an enjoyable banquet last week which brought together many from the area. I would like to challenge each of you to become involved in some way this year with promoting our wonderful town and encouraging others to visit and participate with us. The chamber of commerce website is: madisoncountycc.com on which you will find a calendar of events.
It can be a "fresh start" for your individual involvement in our community, and you might be surprised who you will meet and what you will learn. Let’s all determine to make a "fresh start" and become more involved in the lives of those around us. We can all learn and grow as we spread ourselves out to touch others.
