I’m sure some of you watched the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California on New Years Day.
It is something I look forward to every first of January. The original concepts of each float are truly amazing. To think that each entry has a 5-mile trip they must make with twists and turns along the way makes one appreciate the science and engineering that is figured in to each piece.
I believe someone said that they start the next year's float ideas the day following the parade. That’s a long time to plan and execute a project, but preparation is the key. Each year’s designs follow a certain theme that has been chosen by the parade committee. Every entry sponsoring a particular group, city, or organization is hoping that their float will come away with some type of trophy and recognition, therefore much time and effort is put in to every tiny detail. All floats must be completely covered with flowers or naturally grown materials for every detail of the float in order to make them eligible for competition. The colors of each float are absolutely breath taking and I would hate to have to be a judge. The inspiration behind each one is challenging, as it should be to everyone watching.
As you can see, I used this year’s theme of "Making a Difference" as the title of my article today. How appropriate that should be to each of us as a challenge for this new year.
Have you possibly considered how you might "make a difference" this new year? Personally, maybe exercising and improving your physical appearance or making better food choices for your health. Financially, saving more, spending less on unnecessary items. Mentally, studying and reading more. Spiritually, growing in your personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. Emotionally, having better communications with family and friends, and determining to forgive and mend any broken relationships. Community, becoming more involved in making your hometown, county, state, and nation a better place to live.
There are always opportunities for each of us to improve ourselves and "make a difference" in the lives of others. Choose something in which you can become a part of helping to change things for the better in 2018. "Make a Difference" this year.
