To God, past sins do not matter if a person is truly repentant, and is in the state of Grace. We may "suffer the consequences" while here on Earth, but can look forward to Heaven, which will be worth it all.
God gives the best gifts, and keeping our slates clean is the way to use them. He has just given us a new slate to work on (2018) and that is exciting and refreshing to me.
One thing to do is try to always be kind, compassionate and helpful, or how right you may be. In the end, these things are what matters most. This is an important resolution.
There are many things of less importance, such as: Trying to be on time, as much as possible; listening to what people want to tell you; offering your place in line to someone more burdened than you are; listening to what children want to tell you; and being polite to calling salespeople. They are just trying to make a living.
Specifically inviting people for a visit in your home. Remember how we visited our friends years ago, and how they visited us?
I could go on and all, but we all know what would be good things for us to do, or not do. I'm going to try to do better this year, and try to keep my slate cleaner than I've ever done before. Wish luck and patience for me.
The first thing I'm going to do right now is go get some black-eyed peas and some hog jowl to cook with them. On the first day of the new year I plan to cook up the peas, fry some potatoes and make a skillet of cornbread. No, I'm not superstitious at all, but only continuing an old family custom. I love remembering the "good old days."
Happy New Year,
