It is difficult for me to realize that a New Year is upon us.
As we all know, when you are a child, you can hardly wait for your birthday, Christmas, and any other big event that comes your way. We put up calendars and mark off the days until we become a teenager, get to wear makeup, we practice and then go to take the test and get our driver’s license, have a first date, driving alone. All of these are times we never forget, regardless of our ages.
My mother used to say that these times will come soon enough. As a youth, they weren’t quick enough for me. As I am growing older, the "big events" in my life seem to be coming more quickly all the time. I definitely still look forward to those times, but honestly there are days I would like to say, “Slow down some.”
As 2018 quickly approaches, my prayer for each of us is that we will take each and every day more seriously. Not that we have to disregard laughter and fun and enjoyable times together, but that we would focus on the real reason God created us and put us on this earth. That we will reach out and serve, that we will put others before ourselves, that we will make certain of what we believe and in whom we put our faith and trust.
There is a saying that goes like this: “Jesus first, others second, yourself last” is the way to true JOY. I know there are many that do not believe in Jesus Christ as the redeemer of the world, but there will come a day when each of us will meet our Creator face to face and then what will our excuse be.
Let’s make 2018 the year we will never forget and always remember with joy and happiness because of what we have done for others, as well as ourselves.
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone and may God bless you.
