The Fredericktown High School Football Team lost 70-19, Friday night at North County.
Fredericktown forced three early turnovers and scored on its first three possessions to take a 13-0 lead. North County rebounded to take a 16-13 lead after one quarter. After FHS regained the lead at 19-16, the Raiders scored 38 second-quarter points to pull away.
Fredericktown kicked off to start the game. The Cats Mike Parrish forced a fumble on the kick return. It was recovered by Malachi Kyle, and the Cats had the ball at the Raiders’ 14-yard line. A penalty gave the Cats a first and goal opportunity, but the North County defense held. Fredericktown’s Colten Jordan kicked a 27-yard field goal to give the Cats a 3-0 lead with 10:14 to play in the first quarter.
On the Raiders next drive, Colton Rehkop recovered a fumble and the Cats took over on the North County 25. Again, the defense held FHS to a Jordan field goal. This one, from 39 yards, made it 6-0 with 8:54 to play in the period.
North County was driving into Fredericktown territory on its next drive, when Cade Ethington intercepted a pass and returned it to the Raiders’ 43. A 19-yard pass to Ethan Flanagan gave the Cats a first down at the 24. Three plays later, Seth Laut threw a touchdown pass to Rehkop. The PAT made it 13-0 with 6:47 to play in the first quarter.
North County got a pair of rushing touchdowns and took a 16-13 lead with 1:53 to play in the first period.
On the Cats next drive, Laut completed passes of 31 and 28 yards to Noah Korokis. Another completion to Rehkop got the Cats to the one-yard line. From there, Laut scored. The point after was blocked, but Fredericktown held a 19-16 lead with 11:57 to play in the first half.
North County responded with five touchdowns in the quarter, including three in the final 1:55 of the half, to take a 54-19 lead at the break.
For the game, Laut completed 13 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. Korokis caught five passes for 96 yards. Rehkop caught three for 31 and a score. Ethington had three catches for 40 yards.
The Cats fell to 1-8 on the season. North County improved to 7-2. The Cats open Class 3, District 1 play, Friday night, at Kennett. The Indians are 6-3 and coming off a 63-25 victory over East Prairie. They defeated the Blackcats, 50-14, Aug. 18, here to open the season.
