St. Joseph Catholic School began the celebration of Catholic Schools Week on Monday.
Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. The theme for 2018 is: “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.”
St. Joseph Catholic School planned many activities to celebrate this theme, which focus on the value Catholic education provides and the many ways they give back to our church, community, and nation. St. Joseph Catholic School strives for faith formation, academic excellence, and service to community in all that they do.
Students began the week by thanking school parents with hot cocoa and muffins during student drop-off on Monday morning. Father Abe Arganiosa led the school community in prayer and reminded students of the value and privilege of Catholic education in the United States and around the world. Eighth grade students promoted the school on the radio at B104.3 FM as DJ’s for the morning. They played their favorite songs and talked about the great activities at St. Joseph Catholic School. The day continued with bingo in the classrooms with the principal, Mrs. Bieser.
Additional activities this week included, pajama day on Tuesday with donations benefiting Angels’ Arms, an organization that provides and supports loving homes for foster children. Students also created religious art projects and tested their knowledge in an afternoon of Bible trivia.
On Wednesday, students enjoyed a visit from Bob Kramer’s Marionnettes and learned about the artistry of puppetry. On Thursday, younger students will create gratitude notes for St. Joseph parishioners. Students in grades fifth through eighth will join the pastor, Father Rickey Valleroy, on a field trip to Old St. Ferdinand Shrine, mass at the Cathedral Basilica, and lunch at Fitz’s.
Friday concludes the week’s celebration with an all-school mass, an assembly with the theme “S’more Reasons to Love Catholic Schools”, and s’mores for the students.
Prospective students and their families are invited to visit the school at any time to learn more about the many educational opportunities the school provides.
