Man actively being sought by police

An area man is being sought after police were called to a possible physical disturbance off Locust Street in Desloge.

According to police radio traffic, a man known to police took off from the area in a truck going south on School Street, then headed east on Elm Street going 60 mph. He went down North Harry Jr. toward School Street and made his way to Lincoln Street with officers in pursuit.

The man fleeing went south on Desloge Drive and made a right onto Birch and wrecked the truck behind a daycare and fled on foot. Desloge Police Chief James Bullock said officers continued to chase after him on foot down Desloge Drive and the man ran down behind the Jiffy Lube across the railroad tracks.

“There are several officers from Delsoge, Leadington, Bonne Terre and St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department out there chasing him,” said Bullock. “We are trying to get the dog on him now. I’m still not sure why he is running.”

Bullock said last he heard they were searching the area behind Jiffy Lube and there is one small subdivision back there too. There is a wooded area behind Ravencrest apartments or he could have gone through backyards to come out near Parkside School.

Bullock added the man is known to be armed, but doesn’t know if he is at this time. The public is asked to stay in their homes in that area for their safety.
