Area man charged after kidnapping

An area man is facing several charges after police say he kidnapped a woman, forced her to undress and then assaulted her.

Brandon Downs, 35, of Potosi, is being charged with felony domestic assault in the fourth degree, invasion of privacy and kidnapping in the third degree.

According to a probable cause statement, on Sept. 23 Downs allegedly took his ex-girlfriend against her will and drove her to Floyd Tower Road where he forced her to undress. The report said after Downs forced the woman to undress, he took several pictures of her without her permission.

After Downs took the pictures, he forced her out of his truck by threatening her with physical harm. He then told her to walk back to her vehicle naked. The woman told the deputy she didn’t know where she was during the traumatic incident and that she had begged Downs to take her back to her vehicle.

Downs eventually let the woman back into his truck and then took her to his house, in the 10,000 block of Strange Rd. in Potosi, where she asked to leave several times. Downs refused to let the woman leave his home. The woman told the deputy she was in fear for her life the entire time because Downs is unpredictable.

While the deputy reviewed the nude photos of the woman in the truck, he noticed the woman was attempting to cover herself. He also noted that in her facial expression she appeared to be very scared. In one photo she was clenched up and turning away from the camera.

Downs was being held in the Washington County Jail on a $75,000 bond. Downs has a prior history of felony assault in the second degree, multiple prior probation and parole revocations and is considered a flight risk.
