A Bonne Terre man received moderate injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to retrieve an item from the roadway, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The report states that Walter Huskey, 61, of Bonne Terre was attempting to cross Highway 21 south of Highway 141 in Jefferson County to retrieve an item. Huskey, walking, entered the right southbound lane and crossed the left southbound lane.

A 2002 Ford F150 driven by Stephen Schoen, 65, of Imperial, steered to the left to avoid hitting Huskey, who was then standing near the left shoulder. The left side of Schoen’s vehicle struck the right side of Huskey and continued off the road.

Huskey received moderate injuries and was transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center by ambulance. Schoen’s vehicle sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.
