A local man is facing several charges after a search of his home revealed drugs, drug paraphernalia, firearms and child pornography, that according to probable cause statements obtained from the Washington County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
According to the statements, a narcotic investigation was conducted on Aug. 2 at the home of William Roberts, 48, of Cadet, by officers of the Multi-County Narcotics and Violent Crimes Enforcement Unit and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arriving at the home a detective approached the front door where a female was standing while a deputy kept an eye on the back door.
The deputy saw a man whom he knew to be Roberts exit the back door onto a deck. The man was carrying a green ammo can.
The deputy told Roberts to put his hands on his head. The deputy received permission to enter the home and meet him on the deck, as there was no access to the deck from the ground.
While speaking to the deputy, Roberts said he understood why the officers were at his home and gave the deputy permission to open the green ammo can he’d been carrying. Inside, the deputy found bags of marijuana.
The deputy asked Roberts if there were any more drugs inside the house. Roberts told the deputy there were more drugs inside and gave him permission to search the house.
During the search officers reportedly seized 9,885 grams (22 lbs.) of marijuana, a pipe, two digital scales, a baggie with residue field-testing positive for methamphetamine, a box of baggies, several thousand dollars in cash and 20 firearms.
One of the firearms, a Jennings 9mm handgun, was loaded and on a shelf above where the marijuana was found, alongside some drug paraphernalia. Roberts told officers the gun was kept there because people try to break in to steal his marijuana.
Roberts told officers he sold marijuana to support his family.
For the drugs and related charges, Roberts is charged with one felony count of delivery of a controlled substance, one felony count of possession of a controlled substance, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
During the search a narcotics detective seized Robert’s cellphone and received written consent to search the device for information pertaining to the sale of narcotics.
While searching the phone the detective found eight sexually explicit images showing girls who appeared to be under the age of 18.
He now faces eight counts of felony possession of child pornography for the images on his phone.
For the drug charges, Roberts was held on a $60,000 bond while also being held on a $100,000 bond for the child pornography charges.
Roberts has since posted bail and been released pending court appearances.
