Several people were injured in crashes in Washington County over the weekend, including a man on an ATV.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Luke Cicerelli, 20, of O’Fallon, and Nathan Dodge, 19, of O’Fallon, were both riding 2004 Yamaha Raptor ATVs Friday at 10:42 p.m. off Little Indian Creek Road just south of Rye Creek Road when one after the other failed to negotiate a curve to the left.
Cicerelli and Dodge both went off the right side of the road, overturned, struck several trees and were ejected. Neither of them were wearing any safety gear and they were both seriously injured. Both Circerelli and Dodge were taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital by St. Clair EMS.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Spokesperson Cpl. Juston Wheetley said the two never struck each other and they were driving excessively fast.
“There was two separate crashes involving two different four wheelers, but both the same make,” said Wheetley. “It was suspected one was following the other one at a high rate of speed and they both missed a curve and went off the road and crashed.”
Wheetley added they believed alcohol was a factor in the crash and one of them was in critical condition, while the other was in serious condition.
In an unrelated accident later that same evening at 11:20 p.m., two people were injured in a one-vehicle crash on Route C in Washington County.
According to the report, Jodie Palmer, 36, of Caledonia, was driving his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Route C at Webster Road when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, overturned and struck a tree.
Palmer and his passenger, Robert Weed, 35, of Caledonia, were both moderately injured and taken to St. Anthony’s Medical Center by Washington County Ambulance. Neither men were wearing their seat belts.
