As the school year was winding to a close, Missouri 115th District State Representative Elaine Gannon, R-De Soto, recently visited the North County Raiderettes and presented them with a resolution for their hard work and efforts in recent competitions.

“I can honestly tell you that this is the best part of my Job and I met each of you one on one,” said Gannon. “I just want to say I know you have worked hard to accomplish what you have done. I think what you all do is just as important as what the basketball player and volleyball players do on the court.”

Gannon said the Raiderettes work just as hard, they’ve been at practice every day after school, spent weekends perfecting what they do and probably have gone to several camps. That’s just what the volleyball and basketball players do.

“I think you are on an equal playing field. I also know your success has gone further than what you have done,” said Gannon. “It goes to your parents supporting you, making sure that if there is a fundraiser they are there to help you and if there is something you need they are going to see that you get it.”

Gannon said it’s also their teachers, administrators and school who are behind each one of them, supporting them as they perform at each game and certainly last but not least, their amazing coach.

“You probably wouldn’t be sitting here at the level you have performed without her,” said Gannon. “From reading the plaque I am going to present to you all, I see the majority of you excel in the classroom and I can only see bright futures for each and every one of you. I am so proud of you, it’s just wonderful.”

Gannon read the proclamations ... "whereas the members of the Missouri House of Representatives proudly pause to recognize the North County High School Raiderettes ... And Whereas the Radierettes went on to place fifth in large varsity team performance in the nation at the NDA High School National Championship held March 4, 2017 in Orlando Florida. Whereas the Radierettes could not have attained such phenomenal success this season without the exemplary guidance and leadership provided by Head Coach Ashley Douglas and Assistant Coach Leslie McClain. Whereas, few high school students possess the athletic skill and stamina of the Raiderettes. Now therefore be it resolved, that we, the Missouri State House of Representatives, 99th General Assembly, joined at extending our most hardy congratulations to the North County High School Raiderettes at this proud moment of this proud deserved distinction."

“The last thing I want to say, is this is probably the highlight of your year, and sooner than you think, you freshmen will be seniors,” said Gannon. “Just remember who your teammates are here today and as you graduate from high school and you go your separate ways, that you at least once every five years or some point, someone take charge and contact everyone to get as many of this group together as you can.”

Raiderettes Head Coach Ashley Douglas said this the second time they have been presented with a resolution. Their first one was presented in 2015 when they won state and pom.

“It’s such an honor that they take time out of their busy schedule, obviously they have so many things going on,” said Douglas. “They take the time to honor the accomplishments of young people in their district is really admirable and honorable.”

Douglas added the girls were so excited and they each received a copy.
