Leadwood Police Chief Dale Newman was injured off-duty in a motorcycle accident at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Mayor Dennis Parks said he spoke with a few people at the hospital and is of the understanding Newman has a broken leg and a few contusions but he could be released from the hospital as early as Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Newman, 45, of Ste. Genevieve, was operating a 2008 Harley Davidson on Highway 32 near Gisi Road.

When he stopped to make a left turn on a private drive, a 2003 Ford Ranger driven by Marvin Milburn, 50, of Farmington, failed to see Newman stopped and struck the rear of the motorcycle. Newman was ejected from the motorcycle and taken to Barnes by Air Evac for what the patrol described as serious injuries.

The accident was reported at 5:10 p.m.

The report states Milburn was uninjured. He was not wearing a seat belt.
