FARMINGTON – Robert “Bob” P. Smith, of Farmington, passed away December 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at his residence at the age of 76. He was born April 25, 1941, in Ironton, Missouri, to the late Paul Patterson Smith and Edna Maxine (Reeves) Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy (DePaw) Smith in 2000.
A 1958 graduate of Ironton High School, Bob began working at a young age in the trucking industry. He bought his first truck, a 1959 Ford, at the age of 18. He purchased Black River Transportation which later became Smith Motor Freight, Inc. in 1985. He still owned the firm at the time of his passing. His family will fondly remember his keen sense of humor and big heart. Bob always enjoyed traveling and antiquing along the way.
Survivors include his loving companion, Glenda Robinson; two sisters, Jean Graham and Linda (Karl) Sieczynski; a brother, Ronald (Linda) Smith; a daughter, Tammy (Craig) Slate; a step-daughter, LeeAnn (Mike) Priest; two step-sons, Jeff (Susan) Romines and Steve (Rhonda) Sellers; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 29, 2017, from 5 – 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday morning until the time of the memorial service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Rev.
