A series of Friday night vandalisms involving windows of homes and vehicles being shot out with a BB or pellet gun appear to have begun in Potosi and worked their way into St. Francois County, according to police.
Potosi Police Chief Mike Gum said his department received a total of 14 reports of such vandalisms on Oct. 28, with the crimes likely occurring the night of Oct. 27.
Gum said there were no shell casings found to cause his department to believe a small-caliber rifle or pistol, such as a .22, was used. The damages reported are consistent with a high-velocity BB or pellet gun.
A week later on Nov. 3, a string of similar crimes were committed in the area of Park Hills and Desloge.
Desloge police received about four reports of windows being shot out, while Park Hills police received nine reports.
Detective Sgt. Mike Kurtz of the Park Hills Police Department said the damage seen in St. Francois County is also consistent with a BB or pellet gun.
Kurtz said the department has been receiving tips.
There are likely more victims who have not reported their damage to the police.
