While the active search for an elderly Iron County man missing from his home a month-and-a-half ago has been suspended, Iron County Sheriff Roger Medley said there will be another concerted effort made soon to locate him.
"When the weather improves we're going to bring the dogs back out and search the area," he said. "We're still hoping we'll be able to find him."
Last month, seven search teams went in search for Roy Brandel, 84, who reportedly has dementia and suffers from a serious visual impairment. He went missing from his rural home just before noon on July 9 and is believed to have left the property on foot.
Because Brandel's home is surrounded by U.S. Forest Service property, Medley said the search for the elderly man has been made especially difficult. Taking part in previous searches has been the Iron County Sheriff's Office; area fire departments and rescue teams; the Missouri State Highway Patrol; U.S. Forest Service; the Missouri Department of Corrections' K-9 Unit; and a cadaver dog.
Anyone having information regarding Brandel's whereabouts is asked to call the Iron County Sheriff's Department at 573-546-7051 or 911.
The Daily Journal will continue to provide updates on the search as the situation warrants.
