As first reported here late Friday evening, at 10:36 p.m. Friday the Farmington Police and emergency crews were called to Karsch Boulevard in the area of Walton Drive in Farmington for a young female struck by a vehicle.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 14-year-old Kaitlyn R. Prater, of Farmington, was attempting to walk across Business 32/Karsch Boulevard. As she walked into the traffic lane she was hit by an eastbound 2011 Nissan Altima being driven by Prokopieva M. Gulnara, 44, of Chesterfield, Mo.

A medical helicopter was initially dispatched, but according to the police radio traffic and highway patrol report Prater was taken to Parkland Health Center a few blocks away by ambulance.

She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

KK was a sweet and loving kid who loved her family and her team. She will always be a part of Girl Power Softball and the Blue Angels. We will love and miss her forever.

We will be doing fundraisers to assist the family with expenses. Anyone interested in helping out can message us via the Girl Power Softball League facebook page.

KayKay was loved, and those she liked and interacted with seen how intelligent and ambitious she really was. I had only knew her for a short time, I wish I could have known her longer and I will always keep her in my heart.

KK was a good friend and a good softball play and was really advancing with her talent and was getting better at it every practice. I will always miss her as long as I live, but I know I'll see her again someday. </3

KK is a beautiful girl on the inside and out. She was like a daughter to me. She was a very big part of her softball team, the BLUE ANGELS. She will be missed tremendously. And for those who want to help, we are going to make donation cans and put them around town to help with the funeral expenses. Every penny counts and would greatly appreciated. Rest in peace KK. We live and miss you!!!!!

I feel so sorry for her and her family. It is a shame that in a town of this size that there are no crosswalks at the stop lights that divide half of the town from the other. Of course this is also a town who started a sidewalk renewal by replacing old and broken sidewalks on the part of town that has them. I guess if you live past Karsh Blvd. your not a part of Farmington. Kind of ticks me off as this isn't the first time someone has been hit trying to cross the road at Karsh.

Yes, it is a sad situation,,but don't blame the town of Farmington. Karsch Blvd is a state highway. The city has no control over it.

KayKay was my best friend. She always knew how to light up a room. No matter what was going on in her life she always had to make someone smile!! That smile lit up a room and it lit up my life for the month or 2 that I lived with her and her family. KayKay will forever be loved and missed by many!! It is a terrible lose and prayers be for you the family. She is in a far better place now and one day you as a family will be reunited, but not in the body form you know and have now, but a more glorious form forever with no more tears, pain, suffering, etc. Your tears will be wiped away as you see her again and you shall with her live forever in your final home in heaven.
GOD Bless you and may the Peace of GOD set on you this day.

This is a tragedy without a doubt. I have to ask though, why was a fourteen year old out at 10:30 at night? And why in the name of god was she trying to walk across Karsch on a late Friday night with it being Memorial Weekend?

Regarding netgear101
Why would you blame a child for such a tragedy you ever consider that she was not by herself there is a fun center on one side and Walmart and roller zone on the other these kids should be able to walk from one or the other and not have to worry about someone hitting them the city should have a long time ago should have put in a walking bridge over that area and it don't matter if its a state highway or not its still in the city and there is a lot of people that cross in that area and should be made safer
MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE ENTIRE FAMILY
( the question that should be asked is will the lady that hit the child be charged I HOPE AND PRAY SO

Disturbing and troubling this is. It is always sad to hear of accidents that end in death but especially tragic when the victim of the of the accident is merely 16 years of age. My heart goes out to the family, for a mother and father should never have to bury their children.

As for Netgear and Sparky, I don't think now is the time to point fingers or start a conversation that can lead to ugliness. Now is the time to mourn the life of a little girl who was a daughter, a friend, a teammate, and a sister. Let the police do the police work and if they feel there is a cause to press charges, then let them decide. The accident was tragic enough and in the end, I am sure there could be plenty of blame and what if's to go around, but that won't bring her back.

My heart goes out to the prayer family. This was an awful event. I do notthey know theyou full storyto But unless the driver was drunk or on her phone while driving, this was just a freak accident. She should not be blamed. She has to live with that guilt. I personally know someone that hit and killeda little boy and it was nothing more than an accident and since it happen his life hasn't been near the same. It completely changes their lives as well. Prater family once again I'm sorry for your loss!!

In addition to my first comment, I wish to extend my sincere sympathy to this family. I cannot imagine such a tragedy and the pain and grief involved. But, if this a state highway, why are there pedestrian lights at the Karsch and Washington intersection and not at Karsch and Walton Drive? Just wondering.....

I was there that night I was one of the people that tried to save her life by giving her mouth to mouth recitation and I was also one of the people trying to cross the street with her there was five of us three of us got across kay kay's shoe had came off so one of my friends went back to help her but it was to late and that's when I barely saw it coming I only saw a glimpse of the car and it all happened so fast. we were headed to walmart to meet her sisters ride and that's when it all happened. Kaitlyn was a great friend and a well loving down to earth person who could make you smile no matter what. please let her be with the lord and rest in peace it was not her fault or anyone's for that matter.

The city of Farmington is tearing up perfectly good roads because they have more money than they know what to do with. They should take that money and put in a cross walk at that intersection just like at Karsch and Washington, or a cross walk. I see people crossing there all the time. Such a tragic accident. God bless her and her family. Prayers to ease their pain and suffering.

NetGear101 I agree why wouldn't you tell your children to not walk around town late at night being how drunks are out and kidknappers? I will pray for this family and continue to pray that this will never happen again.
