POPLAR BLUFF — The Mineral Area College Cardinals got superb performances out of their starting pitchers Drew Griewe and Tim Vonder Haar to post 4-0 and 10-1 wins in MAC’s doubleheader with rival Three Rivers Raiders who only managed four hits in each game.

Griewe and Vonder Haar struck out eight batters each in facing only 23 and 29 Raiders respectively.

The Cardinals did not leave their pitchers out to dry as they provided enough run support for both. With home runs in both games, MAC had a total of nine extra-base hits.

Mineral Area hit with power in game one with only one of their six hits going for a single. Three Rivers pitcher Dylan Lynn might have wished he had walked the Cardinal lead-off batters in each inning of the first game as they combined to hit for the cycle.

Brad Wright started the cycle with a home run to lead off the second inning for what would prove to be the winning run. Initial lead-off batter Beau Harris hit a double to start the third inning. Tanner Glore kicked off the sixth frame with a triple and Cody Huff hit a double to start inning seven.

All four scored in their respective innings with Dylan McEwin and Harris hitting sacrifice flies and Glore driving in Harris with a double in the third inning.

The Cardinals (20-11) had their bats warm and ready for game two as they recorded 12 hits in the game with Dylan Mays and Cody Garlington going yard for Mineral Area.

It was only a 2-1 ball game going into the fourth inning with Three Rivers’ Alex Lang driving in the Raiders only run of the day with a double in the third inning.

The Cardinals exploded in the top of the fourth with six runs scored in the inning. A two-RBI triple by Sean Embry looked to end the rally when he scored on a ground ball to second, the first of two ground outs, leaving the bases empty. Three batters later Mays hit his home run to drive in two runs. Garlington hit a solo shot for his round-tripper in the seventh inning.
