NEOSHO — The Mineral Area Cardinals pitching could not hold up to the onslaught of good hitting by the Crowder Roughriders in Saturday’s doubleheader. The Roughriders had 23 hits in scoring 10-8 and 13-2 wins over the visiting Cardinals.

The Cardinals started out in the right direction grabbing an early 7-2 lead in the first game after two innings of play, but it was nearly all Roughriders the rest of the way. Scoring two runs in both the third and fourth innings, Crowder pulled to within one run, but MAC’s defense could not hold in the fifth as the Roughriders crossed home four times. The Cardinals answered with only one run in the sixth.

Starter Dylan McEwin took the loss despite having six strike-outs and only yielding six earned runs.

Brad Ridings had a single and a double to drive in three of MAC’s runs. Tanner Glore also had a single and a double, and Dylan Mays had only one single, but was responsible for driving in three runs.

Crowder continued punishing the ball in game two as they jumped out to a 12-0 lead after three innings. The Cardinals gave a last minute effort to keep from being 10-ruled, but to no avail as they could only come up with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Cody Garlington and Ridings were the only Cardinals to gain multiple hits off Crowder pitcher Travis Northern. Garlington hit a double and a single, and Ridings had two singles. Tyler Bunge, Tanner Glore, and Ryan Bradshaw all hit one single in the game.

Mineral Area will travel to Shawnee College on Tuesday for their next games.
