FULTON, Miss. — Logan Bradley belted a 2-run homer and fellow Farmington graduate Connor Davault had three singles as the Mineral Area baseball team topped Itawamba 7-4 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Two double plays helped out the Cardinals. Starter Jalen Miller induced the first to maintain had shutout bid in the fourth inning.

Bradley went deep to open the scoring in the top of the fourth. Mineral Area produced three runs with two outs in the sixth to unlock a 3-3 tie, including a 2-RBI hit from Davault.

Itawamba put the potential tying runs on base in the seventh, but Jake Triulzi nailed down the save with another twin killing. Ste. Genevieve native Andrew Suiter (1-0) got the final two outs in the fifth to take the win.

Cody Heisserer ripped a double among three hits, and Charlie Palmer had two doubles for the Cardinals. Dakota Glore added two singles, and Hunter Leeper scored two runs.

The victory ensured a successful opening weekend after Mineral Area (3-1) posted two wins on a neutral field Saturday.

Itawamba would salvage a doubleheader split with an 8-6 triumph as two errors helped eliminate a 4-run lead for the visiting Cardinals.

MAC achieved its run production exclusively in the third inning, highlighted by a 3-run blast from Palmer and an RBI single from Heisserer.

But the Indians (3-1) returned the favor with five tallies in the home half to grab a 7-6 advantage. Tucker Akin calmed the Mineral Area bats with 4 2/3 frames of strong relief for the win.

Davault notched his 10th hit of the weekend while Bradley added a double and scored a run. Mauricio Junco (0-1) took the loss on the mound.

Mineral Area will face preseason No. 2 Connors State and Holmes (Miss.) on Saturday in Millington, Tenn.
