UNION, Mo. -- East Central slugged six home runs in a Region 16 softball doubleheader on Saturday, and captured both games over visiting Mineral Area.

The Falcons notched a 7-0 victory in game one with all scoring occurring in the fifth inning. Three home runs followed an error to break open a scoreless game.

Marlee Griggs doubled and Kallie Federhofer and Sami Jo Horrell singled as MAC finished with three hits. Federhofer allowed seven unearned runs and nine hits while striking out four.

The Mineral Area offense responded in game two with Courtney Massengale, Darcy Ferguson and Griggs all going deep, but an 8-run sixth inning lifted East Central to an 11-8 win.

Massengale collected three RBI and matched Ferguson by going 3-for-4 to pace the Lady Cardinals, who scored three runs in the third and four in the fourth to lead 8-3.

Federhofer had two RBI on a double and single. J.J. Pisoni added an RBI single and Lauren Stamp doubled.

Stamp pitched four innings in the loss after relieving starter Maggee Cunningham.

Mineral Area compiled 12 hits, but dropped to 4-10 overall.
