JOPLIN, Mo. – The Mineral Area softball team was limited to four hits in each of its first two games on Friday at the Crowder Bash tournament.
Carl Albert (Okla.) tallied five unearned runs and nine overall on nine singles against Lady Cards right-hander RikkiLyn Wright, and rolled to a 9-0 triumph.
Aubrie Venegas highlighted Mineral Area by going 2-for-2 from the No. 9 spot, while Alyssa Sago and Lilly Pecaut chipped in singles.
Carl Albert extended a 2-0 advantage with four runs in the third inning. Wright worked a quick opening frame, but an error factored into a pivotal second.
Madyson McDermott pitched a perfect fifth inning in relief.
Mineral Area briefly grabbed the lead in a second contest against Fort Scott (Kan.), but could not hold on in a 3-1 setback.
Wright led off the game with a single, and Karlie Missey followed with a double. Stacy Politte collected the lone RBI on a ground that made it 1-0.
Fort Scott answered with two runs in the second inning, and picked up another in the fourth. Mineral Area (3-5) generated just one base runner on an error over the last four frames.
Alyssa Rennick lasted all seven innings in defeat, and allowed one earned run on six hits. She notched two strikeouts and walked one.
Sago and Politte contributed singles for the Lady Cardinals, who will return to action on Saturday against local rival Jefferson and NE Oklahoma A&M.
