UNION, Mo. — The Mineral Area College softball team battled through extra innings to earn an important doubleheader sweep over Region XVI rival East Central on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortstop Rebecca Hanquist homered and doubled to compile three RBI, and first baseman Hannah Hicks finished 3-for-4 with four RBI in an 11-8 opening win as the Lady Cardinals broke through in the top of the 10th.

Kallie Federhofer collected both wins in the circle, pitching the final 3 2/3 frames behind starter Hannah Ghant in the opener before spinning a strong three-hitter with three strikeouts in game two.

Mineral Area took the second contest by a 5-2 margin with Emily Hanquist going 3-for-4 including two doubles. Melanie Hager picked up two RBI while matching teammate Tristan Branch with two hits apiece.

Emily Hanquist scored three runs and Allyson Luce added a double as the Lady Cardinals produced 11 hits in game one.

MAC (16-23) improved to 4-0 in region play and could extend its first-place lead later this week with home games against St. Louis and Cottey.
