RikkiLyn Wright collected four hits and earned her first collegiate pitching win for Mineral Area during a doubleheader split with Arkansas State on Saturday.

JONESBORO, Ark. – Winning pitcher RikkiLyn Wright scored two runs while going 2-for-4 with a double, and helped the Mineral Area softball team earn its first triumph of the season.

Alyssa Sago drove in two runs with a single and double, and the Lady Cardinals scored four times in the third inning to edge Arkansas State 7-5 in game two of a doubleheader.

Abby Bahr notched two RBI on a triple and sacrifice fly, and Karlie Missey had a two-run double. Mineral Area (1-3) extended a 5-3 lead with two runs in the sixth inning.

Wright threw 4 2/3 innings with five hits and two walks allowed. Alyssa Rennick obtained the last seven outs while yielding an earned run on three hits.

Lilly Pecaut picked up an RBI single while Stacy Politte and JaNiah Jones also contributed hits to the win.

Mineral Area could not generate a breakthrough swing in the seventh inning of game one, and Arkansas State held on to prevail 7-6.

Politte powered the lineup by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, but the Lady Cardinals could not overcome four defensive errors.

Wright singled twice for her third multi-hit effort in four games, while Aubrie Venegas and Missey added sacrifice flies for Mineral Area.

Only two of the seven runs charged to Sago in the circle were earned. She struck out four, walked three and allowed seven hits while going the distance in defeat.

Madison Binkard doubled and Jones scored two runs. Caitlin Edgar and Pecaut provided RBI singles, and Bahr chipped in another as MAC produced 11 hits overall.

The Lady Cardinals will host St. Charles for two games on Thursday.
