UNION, Mo. — The Mineral Area College volleyball responded from its tough road loss against Jefferson with two excellent showings to open up the East Central Tournament on Friday.
The Lady Cardinals capped the first day of action with perhaps their best match of the season, taking down a strong Indian Hills program in straight sets 25-21, 25-13, 26-24.
Natalie Gremaud recorded 13 kills with 14 assists, and Danielle Guseman made 17 digs to lead Mineral Area (13-8).
Brittany Collins spiked 11 kills and Liza Gray tallied eight while Erin Wolford made three blocks at the net. Kayla Thibodeaux dished out 21 assists and Sami Meyer added 15 digs.
Mineral Area persevered through a tight opening set earlier Friday against SW Illinois, and swept the Blue Storm 26-24, 25-12, 25-18.
Wolford had nine kills from the middle while Collins and Gray had seven and six, respectively, from the outside.
Guseman finished with 16 digs and Paige Mayes added 11. Gremaud posted 20 assists and Thibodeaux had 15.
Tournament action continues for MAC with two matches on Saturday, starting with a difficult test against Barton County (Kan.).
