OLNEY, IL — The Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals basketball team received special recognition this past week when they were ranked 16th nationally among Division 1 Junior College teams. That was too bad for Olney Central Lady Knights, their first opponent after the rankings upgrade.

The Lady Cardinals dominated the host team 80-57. Mineral Area’s defense forced 23 turnovers and made 13 steals while holding the Lady Knights to only 24 percent shooting from the floor while connecting on 43 percent of their own shots.

Brittany Lawson was high scorer for the Lady Cardinals with 18 points and also led in rebounding with nine boards. Chelsea Roberts contributed 17 points, Ashleigh Bow scored 15 and Janelle Travis added another 14 while also making seven assists

The Lady Cardinals are now 6-1 and will play next on Friday at the Vincennes, IN Classic against Owens College.
