The 59th Annual St. Francois County Rotary Basketball Shootout will tip-off on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Robert Sechrest Sr. Fieldhouse on the campus of Mineral Area College. The one-day charity event will feature five high school basketball games and two college games with both the women's and men’s teams from Mineral Area College participating.

Admission for an “all-day” pass is $5.00 (ages six and under are free). All proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club’s Scholarship Fund, awarding $10,000 annually to area high school seniors.

The shootout action begins at 10:30 a.m. with the first of three boys high school contests with Kingston and Lesterville tipping off in the opener. The second contest is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and features Bismarck and Greenville and will be followed at 1:30 p.m. with West County and Potosi.

At 3:00 p.m., Father Tolton of Jefferson City will take on Fox of Arnold in a girl’s high school game and the final high school game begins at 4:30 p.m. and features North County and Arcadia Valley. The final two games will feature Mineral Area College as the Lady Cardinals will face Arkansas Baptist College at 6:00 p.m. and the finale will tip-off at 8:00 p.m. and feature the Mineral Area College Cardinals and Illinois Central College.

Prior to the nightcap at approximately 7:30 p.m., the induction ceremony for the St. Francois County Rotary Club/Mineral Area College Athletic Department Hall of Fame will take center court. This year’s inductees will be Jerome Freeman and Russ Schoene.

Freeman (68-70), was the first African-American student-athlete at MAC, All-American in 69-70 and finished his collegiate career at the University of Hawaii. Schoene (78-80) is in the Region 16 Hall of Fame and after finishing college at Tennessee Chattanooga, was drafted in the 2nd round by the Philadelphia 76ers and played seven seasons in the NBA.

The St. Francois County Rotary Club has served the area for the past 83 years and provides service and humanitarian projects locally and internationally.

This year’s focus is to fund scholarships to provide needed educational assistance for college bound students for five local high schools while other proceeds will benefit service projects such as literacy, health and hunger and clean water.

The St. Francois County Rotary Club has provided the area’s first handicapped accessible swing set, scholarships for graduating seniors, Back Packs for the five area school’s Weekend Meal Project, dictionaries for elementary grade students, D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Awareness) workbooks for approximately 1700 fifth and seventh graders students, and “Back Packs” for foster children through Parkland Foster Adopt Families along with other projects.
