Bill Montgomery
Joseph William “Bill” Montgomery of Farmington passed away on February 14, 2003, at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, at the age of 76 years. He was born on March 22, 1926, in Wayne County, the son of the late Silas and Cassie Montgomery. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Lee, and two brothers, Thomas and John Montgomery.
Before his retirement, Mr. Montgomery was a truck driver with the Teamster’s Union. During World War 11 he proudly served his nation with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Norman L. Rigdon VFW Post No. 5896, American Legion Post No. 416, and the Farmington Elks Lodge No.1765.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine (Davis) Montgomery, a son, Randy Montgomery and wife Sharon of Cedar Hill, two daughters, Diane (Mrs. Karter) Buckley, and Tracy (Mrs. Kevin) Govro both of Farmington, two sisters, Virginia Shoemake and Lillie Ross, two brothers, Frank Montgomery of Piedmont and Jim Montgomery of St. Peters, MO, five grandchildren, Kent and Shelby Buckley, Kassie, Morgan, and Mackenzie Govro, two stepgrandchildren, Kristin Willis and Holly Ayres, and a step-great-grandson, Nathan. Many friends and other family members also survive.
Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel after 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2003. A VFW service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Ruegg Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at the Montgomery Cemetery in Silva, MO. Memorials may be directed to the Norman L. Rigdon VFW Post No. 5896 or to the Montgomery Cemetery in Silva, MO. This obituary is online at:
