Knights and Raiders win on Monday, will meet for conference title

Both the Farmington Knights and North County Raiders picked up important MAAA Conference wins on the tennis courts on Monday. The Knights will travel to Bonne Terre on Wednesday. If Farmington wins that match, then they will clinch the regular-season conference title. If North County wins, then the two schools will split the title.

Farmington 9, Arcadia Valley 0

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Knights’ tennis team continued their mastery over the rest of the MAAA conference, with a 9-0 shutout of the Arcadia Valley Tigers.

Singles action saw Chris Singer defeat Cody Davis 8-3. Patrick Singer also took an 8-3 decision over Patrick Wessel. Julian Rennhak beat Jarvis DeBrecht 8-4 in the closest match of the meet.

David Halley defeated Joseph Goggin 8-1, while Eric McNeill shut out Loren McHenry 8-0. Aaron Murray posted an 8-2 win over Nick Jones to close out the singles matches.

The Knights also swept the three doubles matches on the day. Chris and Patrick Singer won 8-1 over the team of Wessel and Goggin. Rennhak and Halley were victorious over DeBrecht and Davis by an 8-3 margin. McHenry and Jones were shut out 8-0 by Farmington’s duo of Josh Bertram and Josh Hise.

Farmington improved their record to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference with the victory. Arcadia Valley fell to 1-6 both in conference play, and overall. The Tigers will travel to North County on Friday.

North County 5, Central 4

PARK HILLS – The North County Raiders took on a tough challenger in the Central Rebels on Monday. The Raiders won all three doubles matches during the meet, but the Rebels proved to have a stronger showing in singles competition. North County was only able to win two of the six singles matches, but that was just enough to claim a 5-4 victory.

Cody Christopher defeated Richie Kelley 9-7 to give Central its first win. Matt Bess won 8-4 over John Poston, while Joe Davis scored an 8-5 win over Jerrad Martin. Central’s final win of the day came from Ryan Weekley, who beat Dwight Trolinger 8-3.

North County’s two singles wins were from Greg Jeude and Nick Newberry. Jeude defeated Ryan Ruble 8-1, while Newberry took an 8-2 decision over Matt Boyer.

Two of the three doubles match were decided by two games. Kelley and Jeude won 9-7 over Christopher and Bess. Trolinger and Newberry also had a 9-7 win, defeating Weekley and Boyer. Poston and Martin easily put away the team of Ruble and Davis by an 8-2 margin.

North County is now 5-1 in the conference and 5-2 overall. Central (3-5) will host Potosi on Wednesday.
