Junior Babe Ruth: Red Sox score a dozen to beat the Tigers

BISMARCK — The Bonne Terre Red Sox and Bismarck Tigers faced off on Thursday in the season opener for both squads. The Tigers grabbed an early lead, but the Red Sox scored seven times in the third inning to set the table for a 12-2 win in six innings.
Josh Jaco recorded four strikeouts four innings of relief work to earn the win for the Red Sox. Tyler Beers started for Bonne Terre and allowed one run in two innings. Tyler Henson went the distance and struck out two, but took the loss for the Tigers.
The Tigers took an early advantage in the bottom of the first inning. Mike Franklin drew a leadoff walk, and advanced to third base on a pair of wild pitches. Franklin scored on an RBI double by Henson with two outs. Jon Adams followed with a single, but the rally ended there.
Bonne Terre came back to tie the score in the second inning. Aaron Blunt led off with a double, and scored on an RBI ground out by Chad Moss.
The Red Sox offense exploded in the third inning to take a big lead. Ross Crocker and Nick Fulton drew back-to-back walks to start the frame. Both base runners scored when Bryan Howard slammed a triple into right center field. Howard scored on a bloop single by Jaco to make it a 4-1 game.
Beers followed with a single. The ball was kicked in the outfield to allow Jaco to score on the play. THe Red Sox added three more unearned runs to build a healthy 8-1 lead.
Bismarck picked up a run in the bottom of the third. Jake Smith walked with one out, stole a base, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Smith crossed home plate on an RBI ground out by Kevin Randazzo.
The Red Sox tallied three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Fulton walked and stole a base. Howard singled to left field to score Fulton. Howard scored on an RBI double by Jaco. Beers added an RBI ground out to give Bonne Terre an 11-2 cushion.
Jaco struck again in the sixth inning with a leadoff triple. Beers once again followed with an RBI ground out to give the Red Sox a 10-run victory.
The Red Sox (1-0) will travel to Leadwood tonight for a game against the Leadwood Rockies. The Tigers (0-1) will look for their first win of the season tonight in Potosi against the Pumas.
Giants 7, Falcons 3
FARMINGTON — The Park Hills Giants picked their second consecutive win on Thursday. Ronnie Calvird’s complete-game effort led the Giants to a 7-3 win over the Farmington Falcons.
Calvird allowed two earned runs and five hits while striking out six batters. Brent Baxley also threw a complete game in a losing effort for Farmington. Baxley surrendered five earned runs on nine hits.
Calvird led the Giants at the plate, going 3-4 with an RBI. Cody Martin went 2-4 with two RBI’s. Nathan Liesman, Jimmy Thompson, Ryan Thompson, and Todd Lee also had hits for Park Hills. Baxley was 2-3 with an RBI double for Farmington, while teammate Travis Ribbing was 2-4.
The Giants (2-0) will host the Arcadia Valley Chargers on Monday. the Falcons will play the Phillies in Park Hills on Tuesday.
