Agenda light for Central Board meeting

Departmental reports were the highlight Monday night at the Central Board of Education Monthly meeting. Despite the in-depth reports, Central Assistant Superintendent Dr. Desi Mayberry said the agenda was light for a September board meeting.

“The meeting went really well,” Mayberry said. “It was a light agenda for a September board meeting. The board went in and took care of business and moved on. A lot of behind the scenes work went into the reports that were given.”

The board heard several reports including a Professional Development Program Report by Central West Elementary Principle Steve Alexander, a Grandparent’s Day Report by Central Elementary Principle Mike Jarvis, a Curriculum Report by Central High School Principle Brad Coleman, and a facilities report by Dr. Mayberry.

Jarvis informed the board that the Central Elementary honored Grandparent’s Day with a two-day event that more than 320 grandparents attended. Coleman spoke on revising the math and communications curriculum.

Mayberry informed the board that the roof project had been completed at Central Elementary. Mayberry also said that plans are in the works to accept bids for the addition to the West Elementary School at the November board meeting.

In other matters the board approved several new policies along with approving the substitute list. The board also authorized district officials to execute all required fund transfers to achieve a zero balance in fund two.
