Christmas activities abound for weekend
The second official weekend of the Christmas holiday season will see plenty of activity. Besides the customary shopping, local residents will have their fair share of holiday activities to choose from.
Kicking off Saturday morning will be a “Breakfast with Santa” from 8-11 a.m. at the Leadington VFW Hall on Woodlawn Drive. The event is sponsored by the Leadington Chamber of Commerce and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 5741. Pancakes, sausage, milk and coffee will be provided at the event at no charge.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will return from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Factory. Children can visit Santa from 2 to 4 p.m. and pets can pose with Santa from 4 to 5 p.m.
Donations will be accepted for the Farmington Senior Center. There will also be skits for children, free carriage rides and live music.
The Bonne Terre Memorial Library is also having pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to arrive in Farmington Saturday night for the Christmas parade. After they parade through downtown Farmington on the fire department’s ladder truck, they will be available in Long Memorial Hall’s Winter Wonderland. The wonderland will open immediately following the parade for that evening. Starting Dec. 8 and running through Dec. 19, the display will be open from 6-8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Desloge Christmas in the Park celebration and tree-lighting ceremony will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. There will be refreshments and entertainment. Santa will be available for pictures and visits.
The Bismarck Christmas tree-lighting ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday near the Bismarck schools. Besides the tree-lighting ceremony, a children’s group will sing carols and Santa will visit with the children.
