Lady Cats pick up first MAAA win
STE. GENEVIEVE — The MAAA large schools started their only round of conference action on Thursday, and the Ste. Genevieve Hunters and Fredericktown Lady Cats added a game to the mix on Friday night. Fredericktown won the opener 58-52.
For all intent and purposes the game was close except for one spot. “It was pretty close all game, except the third quarter,” said Ste. Genevieve coach Jeremy O’Brien. “They beat us pretty soundly in the third quarter.”
The Fredericktown defense caused several Hunters turnovers in the third quarter, and gaining a 13 point lead, the Lady Cats kept a good step ahead the rest of the way of any comeback try by the Hunters. Fredericktown led by only three points at the half, 30-27.
Jessica Bollinger was top scorer for the Hunters with 15 points, and Lindsay Rhodes led the team in rebounds with eight.
Ste. Genevieve (3-8) will be at Arcadia Valley on Wednesday for their next game.
