Boys small school standings begin to shape up

Friday night was the third-game night for the MAAA Small-School Conference for boys basketball. and two teams have emerged as unbeaten so far. Arcadia Valley nearly doubled up Bismarck to join West County, which edged out Valle, at the top of the standings at 3-0.

Arcadia Valley 63, Bismarck 32

IRONTON – The Arcadia Valley Tigers got everybody into the scorebook in Friday’s gamea against the visiting Bismarck Indians. The Tigers held a 40-13 lead at the half which enabled Coach Lance Sprenkel to give plenty of playing time to his subs.

High scorers in the game were Sam Fisher of Bismarck and Grant Gardner of Arcadia Valley, both with 11 points.

West County 55, Valle 49

STE. GENEVIEVE – The West County Bulldogs grabbed a 15-9 lead in the first quarter over the Valle Warriors, but couldn’t shake the home team from their coattails as the Warriors closed in several times. In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs acheived their biggest lead of 11 points, but again the Warriors made it a ball game as they closed back to within two three-pointers.

Key to West County’s win was their free throw shooting down the stretch. John Barnett who had a game-high 26 points was 8-11 in the fourth quarter and Jake Blair converted three of his four at the line.

Valley 105, Kingston 28

CADET – The Valley Vikings burnt the net off of the rims in Friday night’s game against the Kingston Cougars. The Indians jumped out to a 67-12 half-time lead and sailed on in for the win. Mike Dodd scored 40 points and Kody Martin added 15 to the onslaught.
