MAAA boys’ teams have good non-conference night
Finsihing their conference tournament this past week, several of the MAAA boys’ teams played non-conference foes Monday night, with many of the games being make-ups of earlier snow-outs.
Fredericktown 83, St, Vincent 61
PERRYVILLE – Kyle Tesreau scored a game-high 21 points, Micah Reutzel scored 19 and D.J. Hinkle added 13 more as the Fredericktown Blackcats overcame a slow start to defeat the St. Vincent Indians 83-61. Steve Weinecke also finished in double figures with 11 points.
The Indians played especially well early and led 19-18 after one quarter. Fredericktown rebounded in the second quarter however, outscoring St. Vincent 27-17 to lead 45-36 at half-time. The Blackcats continued to play well in the second half, outscoring St. Vincent 38-25 to lock up an 83-61 victory.
Fredericktown improves to 18-7 overall. The Blackcats play again on Friday when they travel to Ste. Genevieve to battle the Valle Warriors.
Potosi 64, St. Clair 54
POTOSI – Brett Walton scored 20 points and Kevin MacMahan recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Potosi Trojans defeated the St. Clair Bulldogs 64-54 Monday night. Bryce Malloy also played a key role in the win and finished with 12 points.
The Trojans got on the board first and never trailed in the contest. Potosi led 18-13 after one quarter and held a slim 31-30 lead at half-time. The Trojans extended the lead to 48-42 in the third quarter before outscoring St. Clair 16-12 in the final quarter to earn a 64-54 victory.
Potosi improves to 18-5 overall. The Trojans return to action tonight when they host the Kingston Cougars.
Ste. Genevieve 72, St. Pius 35
FESTUS – Andy Miller scored a game-high 19 points and Nathan Hutson added 17 more as the Ste. Genevieve Dragons demolished St. Pius 72-35. Mitch Meyer and Garrett Ditch also contributed for the Dragons, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Dragons jumped out to a big early lead and never looked back. Ste. Genevieve outscored the Lancers 17-10 in the first quarter and 19-8 in the second to hold a 36-18 half-time lead. The Dragons continued to dominate in the second half, outscoring St. Pius 36-17 to win 72-35.
Ste. Genevieve improves to 6-17 overall. The Dragons return to action on Wednesday when they host St. Vincent.
Steeleville 62, North County 57
BONNE TERRE – Sean Munton scored a game-high 21 points, leading his Steeleville Cardinals to a 62-57 victory over the North County Raiders. Kyle Hawkins and Lucas Hulsey led the Raiders with 15 points each.
The Raiders came out strong, but a late surge in the opening quarter put Steeleville on top 22-14. The Cardinals extended that lead to 39-30 at half-time, but North County rallied in the third quarter to pull to within two at 48-46. The Raiders would pull as close as 58-57 with a minute to go, but the Cardinals hit the majority of their free-throws down the stretch to hold on for a 62-57 victory.
North County falls to 15-10 overall. The Raiders play again today when they host the Festus Tigers.
