Accident takes man’s life

A Fredericktown man was killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred in St. Francois County early Thursday morning.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, David Gavan, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Patrol reports indicate Gavan’s vehicle was northbound on U.S. 67 when a 1996 International Tractor crossed the northbound lanes and failed to yield to Gavan’s vehicle. Gavan’s vehicle impacted with the rear of the trailer.

The other driver, Danny Rayfield, 38, of Piedmont, was not injured in the accident.

In another accident, a Fredericktown woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident at U.S. 67 and Hunt Road just before noon Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Amy Swinford, 19, was taken to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

The driver of the other vehicle, Elsie Barton, 38, of Bismarck, received minor injuries and was taken by private conveyance to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center.

Patrol reports indicate Barton was driving southbound on U.S. 67 when Swinford crossed the highway from Hunt Road into the path of Barton’s vehicle. Swinford’s vehicle was reportedly struck broadside.
